Twitter Earns More through Its Mobile App than its Website
Mobiles apps are creating big business for social media sites. Some like Twitter are earning more profit through their apps, then their web counterparts. Recently, Digital Trends reported that Twitter’s total revenue in 2014 will be $1 billion. Many experts take this as merely a report to boast its reputation and nothing really serious. However, no charge is there for spreading rumours when it comes to competition between technology companies.
Despite this, Twitter indeed is earning more through its mobile app through its monetization than its web version and that too more than any other social networking site. Facebook is still figuring things out for its mobile platform, since it wants to make no mistakes and come out big time. Twitter is portraying its moves as ideal.
One reason that makes it believable that Twitter is more successful as a mobile app, than as a microblogging site online is because of the platform and format of the site, which requires tweets of 160 characters. It is always convenient updating your tweets for your Twitter followers while on the go, than to wait to get to a computer to do the same. After all, that is what tweets are for. Twitter’s CEO, Dick Costolo, is very proud of his company’s position and has shared his ideas during “Ideas Economy: Information 2012” event that was held recently on June 6.
Twitter has over 400 million tweets each day according to the latest statistics and has over 140 million active users. Though quite behind Facebook, but it sure has got some things very right in mobile monetization that Facebook has not.
